In Mumbai’s drawn Group D Ranji Trophy encounter against Rajasthan in Jaipur on Tuesday, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal warmed up brilliantly for the forthcoming Test series against South Africa with his 16th first-class century, earning Mumbai a single point.
Rajasthan scored 617 in their first essay, riding on Deepak Hooda’s outstanding 248, and earned three points thanks to their huge first innings advantage of 363 runs.
Mumbai finished the third day’s play at 89 for no loss in 22 overs after scoring just 254 in their first innings.
In order to avoid a humiliating innings loss, they had to bat out the last day. Jaiswal’s elegant 156 off 174 balls made sure the players shook hands following the first two sessions.
On a placid track, it was nearly impossible for Rajasthan to take seven wickets when Mumbai were 269 for 3 in 82 overs. Rajasthan sent down 60 overs on the last day.
Jaiswal added 149 runs for the first wicket with Musheer Khan (63 off 115 balls) during his innings, which featured 18 fours and a six. Additionally, he and veteran Siddhesh Lad (19 not out) shared a 67-run partnership for the third wicket.
Former captain Ajinkya Rahane was stumped while attempting to take on left-arm spinner Kukna Ajay Singh.
