Sri Lanka A cricketers penalised after on-field clash with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Due to their behavior during the tri-nation A series encounter against India on Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket-appointed match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash has sanctioned senior wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella and Sri Lanka A’s Vishen Halambage on separate counts.

Dickwella, who actually prevented the Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-Halambage dispute from becoming ugly, was reportedly punished for overly appealing.

Following a Super Over victory, Halambage was disciplined for making offensive remarks about Indian hitters, which resulted in a nearly violent altercation with the 15-year-old Indian teenager.

Halambage, who had gotten extremely close to Sooryavanshi during their heated argument, had to be pushed. The severity of the penalties is unknown.

There was no indication as to whether Indian players, such as Sooryavanshi and team captain Tilak Varma, who engaged in a protracted dispute with on-field officials over their insistence on holding a Super Over under dim lighting, received formal sanctions or were simply given warnings.

The incident occurred when both sides were tied on equal scores of 265 each, leaving India to chase 17 in the Super Over. Sooryavanshi, who faced the final three deliveries from Sri Lankan slinger Kugathas Mathulan, managed 6 runs, as India scored just 9 runs.

The 15-year-old Sooryavanshi has received much of the attention following the altercation, but it’s also important to highlight the subpar umpiring by Shantha Fonseca and Prageeth Rambukwella.
