India’s men’s team exited the World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals after getting a 0-3 drubbing at the hands of Austria in the Round of 32 in London on Tuesday.
Manav Thakkar and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran couldn’t put up much of a fight, while Manush Shah battled hard in a match that lasted over an hour and a half.
Manush was the first to play, taking on Robert Gardos. He started well, winning the first game 11-6, but then lost the next two 7-11 and 3-11. He fought back to take the fourth game 11-8, pushing the match into a decider. However, he narrowly lost the final game 11-13. The match lasted 46 minutes.
With India trailing 0-1, things didn’t improve as both Thakkar and Sathiyan went down quickly, losing 0-3 in their matches.
Thakkar lost to Daniel Habesohn 7-11, 5-11, 6-11 in just 10 minutes. Sathiyan’s match dragged a bit longer but still lost in straight games, going down 5-11, 8-11, 9-11 to Andreas Levenko.
