After suffering a right hamstring injury during the IPL, star batsman Virat Kohli is making good progress in his recuperation. On June 22, he will report to the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) for a reassessment and additional planning.
It has been learnt that a member of the CoE sports science team traveled to the UK to evaluate Kohli’s level of fitness and gave him a rehabilitation plan. Kohli and his family live in London.
During the IPL final in Ahmedabad versus Gujarat Titans, he suffered a hamstring niggle.
“Virat Kohli is progressing well following right hamstring injury sustained in the IPL. He was assessed by the CoE team in London and handed over the program to continue in the initial phase of rehab and he will report to the CoE on 22nd June 2026 for re-evaluation, further planning and subsequent clearance,” the fitness update from COE’s sports science team sent to the selection committee and team management stated, as per PTI.
“Virat will get the fitness clearance after a fitness test on Monday in Bengaluru. Before that he is doing a promotional event in Delhi on Sunday,” PTI quoted a BCCI source as saying.
In 2025, while the Indian Test team was in London, the support staff assessed his fitness as he had already declared his retirement from red ball format at the time.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya is yet to fully recuperate from the quadriceps strain he suffered prior to the Afghanistan ODI series. He has been excluded from the England ODI series as he is unable to bowl his allotted number of overs and it will take him more time to reach full fitness.
“Hardik Pandya has not been able to attain requisite amount of bowling volume and conditioning required for an ODI format and will require more time to regain complete fitness for an ODI,” PTI quoted a source as saying.
Every other player in the running for selection is fit. Once the selectors have the final word on Kohli’s availability, the ODI squad will be announced.
