According to IPL sources tracking developments, former white-ball mainstay Yuvraj Singh is set to become the batting coach for the Delhi Capitals in 2027.
In recent years, Yuvraj, who won player of the tournament for India in both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, has served as a mentor to both world No. 1 T20 batter Abhishek Sharma and current India captain Shubman Gill.
When Rishabh Pant’s performance declined, he too sought Yuvraj’s counsel. Yuvraj’s first coaching duty in the lucrative league will be with the Delhi Capitals. Before ending his professional career, Yuvraj played the final of his 132 IPL games with the Mumbai Indians in 2019.
“There will be complete overhaul of coaching staff in Delhi Capitals as JSW will be running the management for the 2027-28 seasons as per agreement. The trio comprising Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani and Munaf Patel, who were appointed by co-owners GMR, will make way for new support staff. Sourav Ganguly will take over as Director of Cricket and Yuvraj will join as the batting coach,” PTI quoted the IPL source as saying.
For two years, co-owners GMR and JSW will alternately oversee the men’s team’s operations. DC’s preparation, strategy, and player selection at the auction were all very poor, and they were unable to make it to the playoffs in the previous two seasons.
As Yuvraj’s first international skipper, Ganguly is said to have had a significant impact on him and wanted the flashy southpaw on board. Yuvraj will solely be responsible for the DC men’s team, whereas Ganguly, the Director of Cricket, also oversaw the DC Women and JSW’s SA20 team, the Pretoria Capitals.
