Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner eye Wimbledon semi-final showdown

Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner would square off in a thrilling Wimbledon semi-final battle, if the championship rivals win their last-eight matches on Tuesday. Naomi Osaka of Japan would get one step closer to winning her first Wimbledon title in the women’s event.

Djokovic will face Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada with whom he is tied 1-1 in their head-to-head record.

Even though the majority of his contemporaries have long since retired, Djokovic is still at the forefront of his career. The 39-year-old’s quest for more trophies hasn’t been quenched despite winning 24 Grand Slam championships and numerous other awards worldwide.

By winning a record 25th major, Djokovic seeks to match Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon singles victories. In the Open era, that would make him the oldest man to win a Grand Slam title.

The road to tennis immortality won’t be simple, though, as Canadian rising sensation Auger-Aliassime, who hopes to advance to his first Wimbledon semifinal, is waiting for a possible heavyweight matchup with reigning champion Sinner. It makes sense that Djokovic is using technology to maintain optimal physical fitness.

“I think the amount of time I spend recovering nowadays is more than I have ever done. It’s just the demands of the body nowadays – more wear and tear,” AFP quoted Djokovic as saying.

“Throughout my career, I always try to look what can give me an edge. What’s the best recovery, wellness technology out there. From hyperbaric chambers, to cryo chambers, to cold immersions, to red light therapy to pulse electromagnetic therapies, to… There’s a lot of things that I have used.”

Naomi Osaka and Karolína Muchová are evenly matched, with their head-to-head record locked at 3-3 heading into their latest meeting.

Japanese sensation Osaka is finally making waves at Wimbledon, five years after her last Grand Slam victory. The 28-year-old has won Grand Slams at Melbourne and New York twice, but prior to her incredible victory over world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round, she had struggled to succeed in London.

Osaka hopes to make a statement with her tennis as she competes in the final eight at the All England Club for the first time after dazzling Wimbledon fans with her striking walk-on attire. Muchova, a 29-year-old former French Open finalist, is also looking to advance to the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time.

Here’s the rewritten version:

Jannik Sinner holds a commanding 3-0 advantage over Jan-Lennard Struff in their head-to-head record heading into their latest encounter.

Sinner has to respond to some awkward questions over his capacity to tolerate the heat as Wimbledon basks in scorching temps this week. When the heat reached a boiling pitch at the recent French Open, the 24-year-old Italian faltered, leading to an incredible second-round loss to Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who overcame Sinner after falling behind by two sets and 5-1.

The four-time Grand Slam winner, hoping to win Wimbledon for the second year in a row, is certain he can handle the heatwave in London when he takes on Jan-Lennard Struff, the oldest man to make it to the major quarterfinals in the Open era at the age of 36.

“I feel I’m well-prepared. We did a good preparation. Whatever happened in the past, it’s gone already. Now we see if we found a solution,” Sinner said.

“But in any case, quarter-final of a Grand Slam, the feelings are different. There is definitely more tension. In the same time, I’m very happy where I am at the moment. Then we see how it goes.”

Jessica Pegula holds a 5-3 edge over fellow American Coco Gauff in their head-to-head record, giving the fourth seed a slight advantage heading into their latest all-American showdown.

Two players hoping to make it to the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time square off in an all-American match on Centre Court.

Pegula, 32, has never won a Grand Slam and is currently in her second Wimbledon quarterfinal. Gauff, a two-time major champion, is making her maiden appearance in the All England Club last eight.
