Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia, will not play in the one-day international series in Pakistan due to an ankle injury he sustained while playing in the Indian Premier League.
Josh Inglis will assume the captaincy following Marsh’s absence from the Lucknow Super Giants’ final game on Saturday and his flight back to Australia for medical treatment.
Marsh will miss the three-match series that begins on Saturday in Rawalpindi, along with regular 50-over skipper Pat Cummins. This week, Cummins is participating in the IPL playoffs with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“Marsh will remain in Perth for further assessment and treatment until further notice. His availability for the white ball tour of Bangladesh will be determined in due course,” AFP quoted Cricket Australia as saying on Tuesday.
Due to IPL obligations, third-choice captain Travis Head was not selected for the Pakistan tour, hence fourth-choice Inglis will be in charge. Only once, against Pakistan in Perth in November 2024, has the wicketkeeper led Australia.
Australia will play three one-day internationals in Bangladesh beginning on June 9, followed by three Twenty20 internationals, following the ODI series in Pakistan.
