Lorcan Tucker to lead injury-depleted Ireland in T20I series against India

Starting on Friday, June 26, 2026, a new Ireland squad led by Lorcan Tucker will take on India in a two-match Twenty20 International series.

In a press statement on Monday, Cricket Ireland announced that Lorcan Tucker has been named the new T20 International captain. Tucker will head a revised team into this week’s two-match series against India Men in Belfast.

Since making his debut for Ireland in 2016, the 29-year-old has participated in 91 T20 Internationals.

Despite having won the T20 World Cup earlier this year, their rivals India will also have a youthful squad headlined by Shreyas Iyer, who will take Suryakumar Yadav’s place.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old batting prodigy who is anticipated to make his India debut in Ireland, would be the center of attention.

Tucker hopes his men can have an impact on the IPL-star-studded Indian team.

”India are an absolute powerhouse when it comes to T20 cricket. We are fortunate to be able to measure ourselves against them right at the start of our new cycle and there will be no tougher challenge for our group than what they will offer,” said Tucker.

”Coming out of the IPL, there will undoubtedly be players who want to make an impact on the international scene. I hope that we can spoil a few of those parties they might have planned and show that we also are here to make an impact.”

Six important players for Ireland are out by injuries. Josh Little, Mark Adair, Paul Stirling, Curtis Campher, Barry McCarthy, and Jordan Neill will not play in the two-match Twenty20 series.

Along with Matthew Hollard and Reuben Wilson, Jai Moondra, a left-arm seamer, is one of three uncapped players selected for the 14-man squad.

”Jai Moondra is a left arm bowler who has ability to swing the ball at a decent pace potentially providing a point of difference that we need to continue to develop moving forward,” Ireland selector Andrew White said.
