David Warner set to plead guilty in drink-driving case: Lawyer

Following a court hearing in Sydney on Thursday, David Warner’s attorney informed media that the Australia cricketer will “accept responsibility” for driving under the influence.

According to court documents, the 39-year-old was charged with “middle-range” drunk driving after allegedly exceeding the legal limit in Sydney in April.

One of Australia’s most well-known cricketers, Warner, is accused of driving a van and pulling over short of a random testing location. He was then arrested, given a breathalyzer test, and brought to a police station.

“I can indicate that David will be accepting responsibility for drink-driving,” defence lawyer Bobby Hill told reporters outside court, according to public broadcaster ABC.

“So many of us make those poor decisions. I think what’s important is accepting and being accountable for those poor decisions,” he said.

Warner’s attorney contended that the case demonstrated the danger people take when attempting to determine whether they had consumed too much alcohol.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a tradesman, a doctor or one of the best opening batsmen in the world, that danger exists for every one of us.”

Warner, the captain of Sydney Thunder in the domestic Big Bash League and a former international opener, did not show up in court and has not filed a plea, according to local media.

According to court records, the next hearing is scheduled for June 24.
