India’s Sai Sudarshan has been sidelined for the third day of the second and final Test of the series against West Indies due to an impact injury sustained on Saturday.
On Day 2, Sai Sudharsan suffered an impact injury while taking a catch.
”The injury is not serious, and he is doing fine. He continues to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team,” the BCCI said in a statement on Sunday.
The West Indies, already trailing 0-1 in the two-Test series after their defeat in Ahmedabad, endured a poor start to their first innings, losing opener John Campbell in the eighth over on Day 2.
After three tidy overs from Mohammed Siraj, skipper Shubman Gill turned to Ravindra Jadeja. Campbell greeted the left-arm spinner with a paddle sweep that raced to the long-leg boundary.
Jadeja flighted the next delivery outside off, and Campbell went for another sweep — this time a powerful slog. The shot caught Sai Sudharsan at forward short leg completely off guard as he instinctively raised his hands for protection.
Incredibly, the ball ricocheted off his helmet, chest, and hands before he somehow managed to clutch it. To his credit, Sudharsan kept his composure to complete a remarkable catch, leaving Campbell out for 10 and the West Indies reeling at 21 for 1.
The ball struck Sudharsan’s hand with such force that he required immediate attention from the physio. The bizarre dismissal even drew a wry smile from India head coach Gautam Gambhir and the rest of the dressing room.
