Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes 95-ball 171, falls short of record double ton in U19 Asia Cup

In the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup against the United Arab Emirates on Friday, December 12 at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his swift ascent in his cricket career by smashing an incredible century. India got off to a fantastic start after being put in to bat first, and the 14-year-old completed his milestone in just 56 balls.

Suryavanshi maintained his impressive form in 2025 by hitting five sixes and nine fours in his innings. He carefully began his innings before hitting a boundary against Ali Asgar on the sixth delivery. In his subsequent over, the southpaw took on the left-arm seamer once more, hitting him for two sixes to gain momentum.

He reached his half-century off 30 balls with a six against Ahmed Khudadad, setting himself up for a significant innings. On 85, Suryavanshi even received a reprieve when he was dropped at long off while attempting to clear Uddish Suri. With a single, he finally reached his milestone in 56 balls.

It was the batting sensation’s second Youth ODI hundred, following his maiden ton earlier this year in England. The knock also marked his sixth century of 2025, underlining his superb form across formats.

He was dismissed while attempting to scoop Uddish Suri, as he fell short of scoring his first double hundred in a Youth ODI. He was dismissed after hitting nine fours and fourteen sixes in an incredible innings of 171 (95).

Vaibhav, who made his Ranji Trophy debut at the age of 12, rose to fame following a brilliant IPL debut season with the Rajasthan Royals.

He amassed 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55, including the second-fastest century in IPL history (101 off 38 balls) against Gujarat Titans, making him the tournament’s youngest centurion.
