Gujarat Titans may have registered a win over Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL 2026 match on Friday, but their skipper Shubman Gill said the chase should have been wrapped sooner and was also frustrated not being there till the end.
Gill scored a brilliant fifty that powered Gujarat to a five-wicket victory in Ahmedabad on Friday. He highlighted his role as a finisher in such scenarios and looked to correct that in the upcoming matches.
“Ideally, we would have liked to finish at least an over, a couple of overs before, and I was quite disappointed with the way I got out. I wanted to be there till the end and finish it. Hopefully, the next chance I get, I would be able to do that,” Gill said after the match.
GT have now won three matches in a row this season, following victories over Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. With this, GT have moved up to fourth place on the IPL 2026 points table, collecting six points from five matches.
On the other hand, KKR are still searching for their first win this season. With just one point so far, the three-time champions remain at the bottom of the table.
Gill was the star of the match, scoring a brilliant 86 off 50 balls at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The GT captain continued his strong record in Ahmedabad, hitting eight fours and four sixes as his team chased down 181 in 19.4 overs.
Gill also shared that he used the break before IPL 2026 to work on his fitness and mental strength. He said he focused not just on improving his skills, but also on becoming smarter and more aware as a player overall.
“I got a couple of months before this. And fitness was one thing that I worked on. And apart from that, just working on the mental aspect of the game and trying to get better, not just technically, but tactically as well,” said Gill.
Gill was named Player of the Match also took the Orange Cap from RCB star Virat Kohli. Gill now has 251 runs in four matches, at an average of 62.75, including three half-centuries.
