Shubman Gill shares candid update on his neck injury recovery – Watch

Shubman Gill, who underwent intensive rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru following a severe neck injury, is feeling well ahead of his return in the T20 International series against South Africa. Gill was given the all-clear by the CoE to participate in the five-match series that will start on Tuesday in Cuttack.

The captain of India’s Test and ODI team suffered a neck injury on a sweep shot during the first Test match against South Africa last month. As a result, he was unable to play in the second Test in Guwahati or the ODI series that followed.

Against the Proteas, the T20 vice-captain will be hoping for some impressive performances.

“I’m feeling much better. I think the day that I came here, from that day till today, I’ve had quite a bit of skill sessions and some training sessions. So, I feel much, much better,” Gill told bcci.tv.

Images of Gill’s training and recuperation under the guidance of strength and conditioning coach S Rajnikanth were also released by the BCCI. In the footage, Gill could also be seen practicing the sweep shot.

Gill talked positively about his early years spent at the National Cricket Academy, which is now a large CoE in Bengaluru’s suburbs.

“Growing up playing under-14, under-16, you know, it used to be a thing among us where we used to be like someone has been to the NCA and come back,” he said.

“When you’re coming here, you know, you’re kind of cream of the crop. So, you know, you have the skillset to be able to reach to the next level and making use of the facility where you know that how I can go to the next level physically or how I can go to the next level mentally,” said Gill.
