According to PCB insiders, Pakistan captain Shan Masood intends to continue leading the national team in the near future despite calls for his removal following the country’s Test series loss to Bangladesh.
Even though Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, is still involved in the Middle East crisis as the federal interior minister, the knives are out for Masood. As PCB chief, this seems to have left him with little time to devote entirely to cricket-related matters.
According to a trustworthy source close to Masood, the senior player was still eager to serve as captain but wanted structural adjustments made to the management and selection of the Test team.
According to the source, Masood was eager to finish the current ICC World Test Championship cycle and is believed to have great support from influential Pakistani lobbyists.
“Shan has conveyed to the board that constant changes in the coaching positions and team management have not been very helpful for him as captain and his efforts to build a strong Test squad,” PTI quoted the source as saying.
A high-level board meeting will be conducted following the Australia series and prior to the Test trip of the West Indies to make decisions regarding Masood’s future and the captaincy, according to another informed source.
