PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi eyes more former cricketers for Pakistan advisory panel

In an effort to strengthen the game’s under-fire system, Mohsin Naqvi, the head of Pakistan cricket, plans to bring in three or four former Test and international stars.

Naqvi told the media in Lahore that he wanted to add more former players to his advisory group because he thought more cricketing ideas may lead to greater outcomes. Currently, the panel consists of three former stalwarts.

“I am meeting some former players in this regard, as I believe that cricket-related matters should be decided by those with extensive knowledge of the game,” stated Naqvi adding that he wished to give the advisory panel complete autonomy.

“I want these cricket minds to take calls on cricketing matters pertaining to the national teams, cricket issues and domestic cricket,” he said.

He currently has former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed as consultants, and there are rumors that at least former captains Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez have been asked to accept the PCB chairman’s offer.

Naqvi revealed that his primary responsibility as PCB chairman was to guarantee the organization’s and Pakistan cricket’s financial stability and strength, and that he never liked to meddle in cricket-related affairs.

“We are in contact with many cricketers. When there are six or seven people instead of three, better decisions will naturally be made,” he stated.

Naqvi stated that these cricket experts will decide on leadership and other aspects because he didn’t want to become involved.

“I can offer suggestions, but there will be occasions when they are not followed. I have to trust them,” he said.

Additionally, he discussed requiring players to play domestic cricket in order to be eligible for central contracts from the board.

“We have been working on the new contracts format, and everyone agrees that all players have to participate in domestic cricket across all formats.”
