Pakistan Super League introduce new rule to offset dew factor in day/night matches

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has implemented a new rule that permits captains to submit two squad sheets and select one following a coin toss in order to counteract the dew factor in day/night matches.

Before the toss in the 11th PSL, which started on Thursday in Lahore, captains must present the match referee with two different team sheets that include playing elevens and four substitute fielders.

Captains may select one of the two teams they have presented to the referee following the toss. According to a PCB official, the rule was put in place to guarantee fair competition, particularly when the dew factor is significant at either of the two venues (Karachi or Lahore).

A while back, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also implemented a rule in domestic first-class matches that eliminates the toss and lets the visiting captain decide whether to bat or bowl first.

The PCB announced on Sunday that the PSL matches would be played without spectators due to the turmoil in the area and the government’s announced austerity and revenue-saving measures.

Additionally, the Board limited the tournament to two venues—Karachi and Lahore—and canceled the opening ceremony.
