After a solid performance in the domestic circuit, Mukesh Kumar aims to do well in IPL 2026 where he would take the field for Delhi Capitals. The Bengal pacer looking to make an India comeback had last played an international match two years ago.
But he gave credit to Mohammed Shami for being a constant support and having played a big role in his cricketing career.
“I learn a lot from him. He has played for India for so many years and is still going strong. Whenever I am stuck or things are not going well, I go to him and ask questions. He always helps me,” Mukesh said.
Mukesh had a stellar 2025-26 domestic season where he picked 30 wickets across formats. He last played for India in an one-dayer against South Africa in 2023, and is eyeing a comeback into the India setup.
“I don’t think too far ahead about World Cups or big tournaments. My focus is on what I need to do today and how I can improve in practice, what variations I can add, and how I prepare for different batters,” he said.
His returns were mixed in the last season of IPL where he picked seven wickets off 10 matches. However, he wants to be spot on this season in his execution by getting the yorkers and other variations right.
“Whether it is the yorker or the wide yorker, you have to keep improving. Conditions and match situations demand adaptability,” he said. Looking ahead to the upcoming IPL season, said Mukesh, who made an all-format debut for India during the tour of West Indies in 2023.
“I just want to contribute as much as I can to the team (Delhi Capitals) and help them win matches,” he added.
