A day after the previous leadership resigned from their positions, former Sri Lankan internationals Kumar Sangakkara, Roshan Mahanama, and Sidath Wettimuny were selected to the nine-member change committee that would oversee Sri Lanka Cricket.
According to local media, the former board members resigned following a meeting with Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the country’s president.
Eran Wickramaratne, a former state minister and businessman, has been appointed chairman of the new temporary committee. The committee’s goal is to create a new constitution for SLC in order to guarantee improved administration and transparency.
“Our immediate priority is a total overhaul of the governance framework at SLC,” Wickramaratne said in a statement.
Sangakkara, a former captain of Sri Lanka who presided over Marylebone Cricket Club in 2019–20, is currently the director of cricket for the Indian Premier League team the Rajasthan Royals.
Since retiring from international cricket in 1999, Mahanama has also been involved in cricket administration, having officiated ICC matches for over ten years.
