IPL 2026: Why Punjab Kings will be without Lockie Ferguson for early matches

In order to spend time at home after the birth of his first child, New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson will miss the first seven league games for his IPL team, the Punjab Kings.

Before returning to New Zealand for the Super 8 stage, Ferguson had taken a paternity leave halfway through the T20 World Cup.

Due to a hamstring injury, the pacer was only able to play four games for the Punjab Kings previous season. The team made it to its first final since 2014 last season.

Ferguson discussed the time off from the IPL prior to the third Twenty20 match against South Africa in Auckland.

“Just had a wee son, trying to spend as much time as I can at home and help the wife out. I’ll have a few weeks off after this, before sort of heading to the later stages of the IPL and away for the winter,” he said.
