Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, was fined for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL match against the Gujarat Titans.
In their final season game in Ahmedabad on Thursday, Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by a dominant 89 runs to secure a top-two finish in the IPL playoffs.
The five-time champions’ tenuous prospects of making it to the final four were likewise dashed by the loss.
“As this was his team’s second offence (first offence in Match 18) of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gaikwad was fined INR 24 lakhs,” said an IPL media advisory issued on Friday.
The Impact Player and the other members of the playing XI have been fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fees, whichever is less.
