The well-rounded and audacious Royal Challengers Bengaluru will need to defeat a timid Gujarat Titans in an intriguing ideological struggle on Sunday in Ahmedabad in order to win their second straight IPL championship.
Due to their reckless, high-risk style of play thus far in this competition, the reigning champions RCB appear to be the clear favorites versus the 2022 victors.
Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David, captain Rajat Patidar, Phil Salt when available, and Venkatesh Iyer have mercilessly pummeled the opponents with single-gear batting, albeit it has occasionally put them in danger.
No other team has been able to surpass 200 as frequently as they did in this IPL season, and their battering ram style has been mostly unaffected by the type of surfaces or the bowling tactics of their opponents.
Over the past two seasons, Patidar’s composed leadership style has also contributed to Royal Challengers’ consistency as a squad.
Although the 32-year-old is not as emotive as prior leaders Kohli or Faf du Plessis, there is a certain assurance in the way he performs his duties, which puts both the team’s superstars and rookies at rest.
Additionally, the RCB’s parsimonious bowling unit suppresses the opposing batsmen from the Powerplay stage. However, in order to defeat the formidable Gujarat top-order, the assault spearheaded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar would need to perform at their highest level.
GT openers, captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, had been content to keep a run-rate just above 9 in a competition when the batsmen made the most of powerplay, scoring over 11 or 12 runs per over.
Although this linear build-up is a traditional powerplay strategy, it is partly due to GT’s relatively weak middle order and the need for the top three—Gill, Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler—to perform the hard work.
Gill (722, strike-rate: 163), Sudharsan (710, SR: 159), and Buttler (507, SR: 157) have all performed nearly consistently. In the most important game, they will have to perform once more, although GT’s home record this season—five victories in seven games—offers some solace.
It would be difficult since RCB has a cunning and diverse bowling assault led by Josh Hazlewood (13 wickets), Rasikh Salam (16 wickets), Krunal Pandya (13 wickets), and Bhuvneshwar (26 wickets), who is ranked second in the Purple Cap list. Not to mention, Pandya senior has been a huge help with the willow.
However, the Titans have a small advantage in that area. The depth of the Royal Challengers’ batting order and the availability of range hitters throughout give them an indisputable advantage. However, GT’s bowling lineup is capable of stopping the raiding RCB hitters, especially if the Ahmedabad pitch gives them traction.
The South African has received a lot of support from Mohammad Siraj, Rashid Khan, Jason Holder, Prasidh Krishna, and Kagiso Rabada, who currently leads the Purple Cap race with 28 wickets.
This season, Rabada and Siraj have combined to bowl a chart-topping 165 and 162 dot balls, respectively, demonstrating their control over batters even on some innocuous wickets. The two have effectively employed the firm length to deny the dreaded six-hitters the necessary room for their golf swing.
Given that the pacer required medical care for his shoulder during Friday’s Qualifier 2 match against Rajasthan Royals at Mullanpur, Siraj’s fitness will be strictly watched.
The seasoned pacer bowled the entire allotted four overs, but he was clearly uncomfortable. GT will hope that this is only a small setback. However, the on-field equation is not much altered by Siraj’s fitness scenario.
Everyone believes that the RCB are the favorites, and they will undoubtedly lose this final. The Red and Gold Brigade will be excited to join the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings as the squad to win back-to-back IPL titles, and it is definitely doable.
Even though the Titans have been a nervous team, they can only look for the metaphorical tripwire in the lanes to deny RCB, which makes this final an exciting prospect.
RCB vs GT Head-to-Head:
With five victories from nine games played, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have a tiny advantage over Gujarat Titans in their head-to-head record.
This season, RCB has defeated Titans in two of their three meetings. The reigning champions’ crushing 92-run victory over GT earlier this week in the Qualifier 1 encounter will give them a great deal of confidence.
The Titans’ incredible home run this season—they have won five of the seven games played in Ahmedabad—will give them a lot of confidence.
RCB vs GT Pitch Report:
Given the two sides’ batting prowess, the Ahmedabad pitch could result in a high-scoring match with scores predicted to be around 200. The team bowling second is likely to be hindered, particularly the spinners, by the dew, which could play a significant role in the second half of the match.
RCB vs GT Weather Report:
Sunday’s weather in Ahmedabad is predicted to be extremely hot, with highs in the 30s, and there is no chance of rain during the match.
RCB vs GT Probable XIs:
