Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener Phil Salt has returned to England for tests on a finger injury he suffered last month.
Due to the injury, Salt has missed RCB’s previous three games. Jacob Bethell, a fellow countryman, has filled in at the top of the order.
During RCB’s April 18 loss to Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the 29-year-old is said to have “damaged a finger on his left hand” while diving to preserve a boundary at deep backward square leg.
“Salt, who is centrally contracted by the ECB, has since returned home at the request of England’s management and has undergone scans on his finger,” ESPNCricinfo reported.
The opener can return to India later this month, according to the source, and both RCB and Salt are optimistic about a quick recovery.
Salt made a great start to the season, scoring 202 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 168.33 in just six innings.
Right now, RCB is behind Punjab Kings in the standings. Next Thursday, they play the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
