Rohit Sharma is now being evaluated by the team’s medical experts and is virtually certain not to be selected for the Mumbai Indians’ Indian Premier League match against Punjab Kings on Thursday.
After feeling pain in his hamstring during last Sunday’s high-scoring match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rohit left MI’s batting innings in the sixth over.
The Mumbai Indians lost the game by 18 runs, their third straight loss this season, after Rohit retired hurt while batting at 19 off 13 balls.
“The medical team and the coaching staff are assessing him and we will get to know,” PTI quoted a team official as saying during MI’s training session on Wednesday.
England all-rounder Will Jacks, who has missed all four of the Mumbai Indians’ games this season and is expected to miss Thursday’s encounter as well, is “on his way” to join the team.
Before joining the team in India, Jacks and New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, who has now participated in two games, had requested more time.
