Nothing seems to be going right for Kolkata Knight Riders and their captain Ajinkya Rahane, who has been reprimanded by the Indian Premier League governing Council for a Code of Conduct breach.
Rahane has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during KKR’s match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday, which they lost. KKR remain winless in the season so far.
“Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Ajinkya Rahanehas been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 22 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined INR 12 lakhs,” an IPL release read.
CSK on the other hand got a strong boost from spinner Noor Ahmad, who returned to form with three wickets for 21 runs. Pacer Anshul Kamboj also impressed, picking up two wickets for 32. Together, they shared five wickets and helped CSK register their second win of the season. The team now has four points from five matches and has climbed to eighth place in the standings.
Chasing 193, KKR lost early wickets and never really recovered. CSK bowlers kept things tight throughout, restricting them to 160 for 7. Ramandeep Singh was their top scorer with 35, while Rovman Powell remained unbeaten on 31, but their efforts were not enough.
KKR made a change at the top, with Sunil Narine opening alongside Finn Allen instead of their captain. Narine started aggressively with a couple of sixes, but Allen was dismissed early by Kamboj in just the second over.
Narine could not carry on and was dismissed during the powerplay, leaving KKR struggling at 36 for 2, their lowest powerplay score since 2024. Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi tried to steady the innings with some boundaries, but the team never got the momentum.
In the end, KKR fell well short of the target. Big names like Cameron Green and Allen once again failed to deliver with the bat, as the chase fizzled out.
