The Gujarat Titans’ top order has come under fire for not attacking as much as some of the other IPL sides, but assistant coach Parthiv Patel has ruled out a shift in the team’s mentality.
Prior to the home return leg encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Parthiv was reminded of how GT lost the match with little than an over remaining after managing just 205 at Chinnaswamy Stadium despite an opening stand of 128 in less than 13 overs.
When compared to the pace at which some of the other openers, such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Priyansh Arya, and Abhishek Sharma, are batting, opener Sai Sudharsan’s 57-ball century is now regarded as slow.
“I don’t think we need to make any tactical changes as such. I think we are very comfortable the way we are playing, the way we are approaching the game. There is obviously a lot of talk about playing another brand of cricket. But I think we are playing the way we want to,” PTI quoted the former India stumper as saying on the eve of the game on Wednesday.
When questioned about the middle-order batters’ seeming lack of power, Parthiv defended them.
“So, obviously, you all can see that our top order has been playing maximum number of balls, almost like 15th, 16th over. And as far as preparation is concerned, I can definitely tell you that, you know, we make sure that they are well prepared. We have those facilities here where we can do our open nets and stuff like we had that session yesterday with our lower middle order or our middle order,” he said.
“So, we try and give them as much as possible. So, as I said, we are a team which we believe in what we have as far as any batter is concerned, whoever is playing. And we have full faith in them and we are making sure that they are ready.”
