IPL 2026: Cameron Green believes revived KKR can make strong playoff push

After Kolkata Knight Riders made a valiant recovery to stay in the running for the playoffs, all-rounder Cameron Green acknowledged that the three-time IPL winners took a little too long to identify the right players for the appropriate roles.

In a high-scoring match in Kolkata on Saturday, KKR defeated second-place Gujarat Titans to move up to seventh place and maintain their aspirations following a dismal start to IPL 2026.

At the Eden Gardens on Saturday, KKR defeated Gujarat Titans by 29 runs, their fifth victory in the previous six games.

Green, whose inability to bowl at the beginning of the season had given KKR additional headaches, particularly when the team was plagued by a slew of injuries to important bowlers, claimed his team has finally found the correct balance.

“There was no panic behind closed doors. I think it just took us a while, maybe a bit too long, to figure out the right roles and get the right people in the right positions,” PTI quoted Green telling JioHotstar.

“I like to think I can bat in a few positions, but it’s about what is best for the team. Ajinkya Rahane has been awesome at the top for us, and the same goes for Angkrish (Raghuvanshi), our youngster at No. 3. So, it’s just about where I fit into the team, and No. 4 seems to be it. We’ve found that now, so we’re giving ourselves a little chance here,” he said.

Green did not give GT spinner Rashid Khan much thought after scoring an undefeated 52 off 28 balls (3 fours, 4 sixes) in KKR’s massive total of 247/2 batting first.

“Rashid is a quality bowler and I’m sure we’ll have many battles in the future. No, I don’t think I’m picking Rashid better than most. It’s just kind of how it has happened. I had a couple of good opportunities to take it deep against GT and, obviously, when you walk out to bat after a really good partnership, you can just keep that momentum going. The guys before me batted beautifully,” Green added.
