How U-19 World Cup final hundred forged Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s rise in Indian cricket

Young Indian cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi called his game-winning century against England in the Under-19 World Cup final one of the most “special” knocks of his developing career on Monday. It was an unforgettable innings that was crucial to India winning the title.

Sooryavanshi led India to a record-extending sixth U-19 World Cup victory with an incredible 175 off just 80 balls.

“My personal favourite is the final knock in the U-19 World Cup (in Harare). I could only play one U-19 World Cup. It was a proud moment for me to score a hundred in the final. What I contributed for the team in the final was special,” PTI quoted Sooryavanshi as saying on the sidelines of an event to unveil the new jersey of Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming edition of the IPL.

When asked what he hopes to achieve in this year’s IPL, Sooryavanshi responded that he is only thinking about his process.

“I try to focus on winning. I just focus on my work.”

Although the 14-year-old’s tremendous power-hitting has garnered significant media attention, Sooryavanshi acknowledges that he would rather keep things straightforward.

“I just try to focus on my work. In any field if you do well, you are bound get attention. But I am not focusing on that attention. I just want to concentrate on my job,” Sooryavanshi said.

Leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja and seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is rejoining RR after a 17-year absence, were also present at the event.
