Sunrisers Hyderabad’s collective batting effort overshadowed teen phenom Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s thrill-a-second 103, the third fastest IPL century off 36 balls, as the visitors won handily by five wickets in Jaipur on Saturday.
With nine balls to spare, SRH scaled down a 229-run target, with Ishan Kishan hitting a 31-ball 74 and Abhishek Sharma riding on a couple of lifelines to knock 57 off 29 balls.
After Punjab Kings’ historic 265-run chase against Delhi Capitals earlier in the day at New Delhi, it was the fourth-highest run chase in IPL history.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals racked up 228/6 thanks to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (103), who went hammer and tongs for the third fastest hundred in IPL history off 36 balls.
Sooryavanshi made SRH pay a high price for an early reprieve when he was on 32 to score his maiden century of the season and his second hundred in the league after three quick fifties earlier.

At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, where Rajasthan played their first game of the season, the 15-year-old once again showcased his extensive arsenal of physical force and timing strokes. In his 37-ball 103, he hit 12 sixes compared to five fours by making the most of the big handle.

After Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in April 2013 and his own 35-ball century last year, he reached the third fastest century in the IPL with a six off Sakib Hussain (1/62) on his 36th delivery.
Sooryavanshi got off to a fast start and didn’t look back as he hit Praful Hinge (1/49) for two sixes on the on side and two down the wicket in the last four balls of the opening over.
In order to sustain RR’s assault, an on-song Sooryavanshi scored runs on both sides of the wicket and put on two strong stands at the top. He hardly ever missed a chance to punish.

Together with Dhruv Jurel, who contributed a 35-ball 51 with eight fours and two sixes, he consolidated for RR with a 112-run partnership for the second wicket. His quick start helped him add 40 runs off only 14 balls for the opening wicket. Sooryavanshi missed a scoop off Hussain and was pinned in front of the stumps for a leg-before, ending his charge as soon as he reached his ton.
In the meantime, Jurel was fortunate twice as Hussain’s follow-through failed to hold on to two difficult return opportunities. Even though SRH was able to dismiss the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) early, they made a mistake when Eshan Malinga (2/38) gave them the chance to dismiss Sooryavanshi in the fifth over.

Sooryavanshi attempted to heave a length ball to the on-side but failed. At deep midwicket on his right, Aniket Reddy traveled a considerable distance before the ball escaped his grasp, resulting in a costly drop. With a six from Hussain in the sixth over, Sooryavanshi completed his 50 off 15 balls.

Donovan Ferreira’s late 16-ball 33, which included three sixes and an equal number of fours, further enhanced RR’s innings.
SRH’s regular captain Pat Cummins returned with amazing stats of 4-0-27-1 amid the assault from RR hitters; his only wicket was that of his counterpart Riyan Parag (7).
