Naseem Shah faces heat as PCB issues show-cause notice over ‘queen’ post

Fast bowler Naseem Shah has received a show-cause notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for allegedly breaking media laws and the terms of his central contract. The notice comes after he made a contentious social media remark on the first night of the Pakistan Super League 2026 season.

The post, which was later removed, seemed to raise concerns about how Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab state in Pakistan, was treated during the event. The Pakistan Cricket Board stated in an official statement that the pacer’s actions had prompted disciplinary action.

“Naseem Shah is required to provide a response within the stipulated time. The PCB remains committed to upholding professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the game.”

The board stated that the issue would be examined following Naseem’s response, although it did not identify the precise clause that was violated.

A post made on Naseem’s X account during the PSL opening at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore sparked the debate. In the post it was asked, “Why is she treated like a queen at Lord’s?” and featured a video of Maryam Nawaz arriving at the event.

A follow-up message stated that Naseem’s account had been hacked and then recovered, and the post was swiftly removed. Nevertheless, the explanation did not stop the problem from getting worse.

Despite earlier measures to restrict public attendance due to external considerations, the incident received additional attention because it occurred on a high-profile opening night attended by dignitaries.

The PCB argued that the pacer’s activities might have violated media standards and contractual duties, which forbid public criticism or offensive comments about authorities, institutions, or stakeholders.

In recent years, the board has taken a strong stand on player behavior, especially when it comes to remarks made in public and political allusions. After Naseem’s explanation, the case will move forward and any disciplinary action will be determined.

Naseem, who plays for Rawalpindi Pindiz in the PSL, is anticipated to play in their next matchup with Peshawar Zalmi. In an effort to uphold its code of conduct, the PCB’s handling of the matter continues to be the main emphasis.
