Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma likely to feature in 9 home ODIs in 2026-27

The BCCI announced on Thursday that Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium, which hosted a Test match against South Africa in November of last year, has now secured a match in the 2026-27 Border-Gavaskar series between Australia and India, which will be the high point of the Indian team’s home calendar.

There will be five Tests, nine ODIs, and eight T20Is in the Indian men’s home season.

The famed white-ball duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is scheduled to play in every ODI, thus the matches will undoubtedly be closely watched.

The series against Australia will take place in January, February, and March of 2027. It will begin in Nagpur on January 21 and go on to Chennai on January 29–February 2. After an eight-day break, the third Test will take place in Guwahati on February 11–15.

The fourth Test will take place in Ranchi from February 19 to February 23. The final Test in Ahmedabad will start on February 27.

Nagpur (last hosted Test vs Australia in 2023), Chennai (last hosted Test vs Bangladesh in 2024), Ranchi (last hosted Test vs England in 2024), and Ahmedabad (last hosted vs Australia in 2023) have all received their fair share of games among the five venues according to rotation.

Mumbai and Kolkata are not included in the major series, however it remained unclear how Guwahati, which hosted India’s most recent home Test series (against South Africa in November 2025), would be included in rotation once more.

It is unknown if the Mumbai Cricket Association or the Cricket Association of Bengal have stated that they are unable to host a Test match against Australia.

During the home season, India will host West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe in addition to the Australia Test series.

For the first time since 2002, when Sourav Ganguly was leading India, Zimbabwe will really play a bilateral series in India.

With the West Indies tour of India beginning on September 27 of this year, the season will consist of 22 international matches in 17 venues.

A three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series will be part of the tour.

The T20Is will take place in Lucknow (October 6), Ranchi (October 9), Indore (October 11), Hyderabad (October 14), and Bengaluru (October 17). The ODIs will take place in Thiruvananthapuram (September 27), Guwahati (September 30), and New Chandigarh (October 3).

In December, India will host Sri Lanka for a white-ball series that includes three One-Day Internationals and an equal number of Twenty20 Internationals.

The T20Is will take place in Rajkot (December 22), Cuttack (December 24), and Pune (December 27), while the ODI leg will take place in Delhi (December 13), Bengaluru (December 16), and Ahmedabad (December 19).

In January 2027, Zimbabwe will tour India for a three-match ODI series. The games will take place in Hyderabad on January 6, Mumbai on January 9, and Kolkata on January 3.
