Ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), captains of all the teams will meet with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) in Mumbai on Wednesday. The meeting will cover topics including the impact substitution rule and the code of conduct.
It is customary for captains to meet with the BCCI; former Indian players Javagal Srinath and Nitin Menon, who are in charge of the match referee and umpire panels, respectively, will address the meeting in Mumbai.
“There is nothing new in the regulations this year. Some of the captains and coaches are new and it is important to inform them about the rules,” PTI quoted a BCCI official as saying.
Two bouncers per over, bat size checks, replacing the ball when it is lost or unfit for play, retired out calls, and saliva use are further topics to be covered.
Prior to the 2025 season, the IPL repealed the restriction on using saliva to shine the ball, which had been in place in international cricket since September 2022.
On the other hand, a number of crucial choices were made during the 2025 captains’ meeting, the most important of which was the approval to use saliva following consensus from ten captains.
Additionally, it was agreed to allow the second-bowling team to ask for a ball change once after the tenth over. This was done in order to deal with the problems caused by dew during the evening games.
Regardless of whether dew is apparent or not, the bowling captain is allowed to request a ball change; nevertheless, the on-field officials will choose the replacement ball.
Additionally, it was decided to use Hawk-Eye and ball-tracking technology to provide height-based no-ball assessments and wide-ball reviews outside the off-stump to broaden the scope of the DRS.
All of these will still be prevalent in the 2026 IPL.
