The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a happy hunting ground for the big-hitting batters who have created records by scoring blazing centuries. But when it comes to fastest century in IPL history, Chris Gayle’s 30-ball hundred tops the list.
Gayle, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, scored an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls against the now-defunct Pune Warriors in IPL 2013, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gayle’s 175 also remains the highest individual score in T20 cricket.
The West Indian batter also broke many other records in that innings. He hit 17 sixes and 13 fours in the match. It was the most number of sixes hit by a batter in IPL.
The record of scoring fastest century by an Indian is held by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who reached the milestone off just 35 balls during Rajasthan Royals match against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur during IPL 2025. He scored a brilliant 101 off 38 balls, which included seven fours and 11 sixes. Courtesy that blazing knock by Suryavanshi, Rajasthan Royals chased down GT’s target of 210 with eight wickets and 25 balls to spare.
Notably, at 14 years and 32 days, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is also the youngest to score a century in the IPL and T20 cricket. It was also the fastest century in the IPL by an uncapped player.
Yusuf Pathan is placed third in the list, who earlier held the record for the fastest century in IPL, when he had slammed a 37-ball century playing for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2010.
Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad also scored a 37-ball ton against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025 at Delhi.
David Miller’s 38-ball hundred for Punjab Kings in IPL 2013 and Travis Head’s 39-ball ton for SRH in IPL 2024 also feature among the fastest centuries in the tournament’s history, interestingly, both came against RCB.
Two other Indian batters also feature in the top-10 IPL fastest hundreds list. Priyansh Arya scored a 39-ball century playing for Punjab Kings against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 at Mullanpur. In the same edition, SRH’s Abhishek Sharma notched up a century off 40 balls against Punjab in Hyderabad.
