Former England captain Kevin Pietersen who coached the Delhi Capitals last season, announced on Saturday that he will not be able to fill the position in the forthcoming Indian Premier League season.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28 to kick off the 2026 Indian Premier League.
“I cannot be the mentor for Delhi Capitals this IPL season. I cannot give the time that the job requires. Best wishes to all the players for this season!
“However, I’ll see you back in the commentary box. IPL is the world’s best league and I can’t wait to see you all soon!,” Pietersen said on X in a post written in Hindi.
On April 1, the Delhi Capitals will play their first IPL 2026 match away from home at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Before the 2025 season began, Pietersen, who had played for three teams in five IPL seasons, was named DC’s mentor. Additionally, he has played for the former Delhi Daredevils team.
Pietersen led in 17 IPL games as well. He briefly captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2009 before taking the helm of Daredevils in 2014.
DC are still searching for their maiden IPL title.
