In order to increase competition and give spectators more exciting action, the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) announced major format changes for Season 12 beginning August 29. These changes include an improved league stage and a redesigned play-off structure.
With 108 matches in an exciting league stage, each team will play 18 games. The next season will include trips to Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, and Vizag.
In all league-stage games, PKL Season 12 will implement a thorough tie-breaker rule structure that includes the Golden Raid format. This technique, which was previously restricted to play-off matches, will now guarantee definite results throughout the competition.
Teams will participate in a structured 5-raid shootout with the following unique rules in the event of a tie: Each side selects five distinct raiders who alternately raid, and both teams field seven players with the baulk line treated as a baulk line/bonus line. Only points scored are counted; if there is still a tie after five raids, the Golden Raid rule takes effect. Out and revive rules are not applicable.
The Golden Raid style, in which a new toss decides which team receives the final raiding opportunity, adds drama to pivotal times. After golden raids, if both sides are still deadlocked, a throw determines the victory. By removing tied results, this new regulation preserves the competitive spirit of the PKL and ensures decisive results and increased drama in every game.
For the forthcoming season, the PKL also made the decision to streamline its points system. Now, teams will receive two points for winning and zero points for losing. The standings are easier to understand with the updated format.
Along with a revised play-offs structure, play-ins will also be introduced this season. More teams will have the opportunity to contend for the trophy as the top eight teams from the league stage will have the opportunity to go to the playoffs for the first time.
Each match is more important than ever since the play-ins make sure that every league-stage spot has more weight.
Teams ranked fifth through eighth will compete in play-in games under the new format, with the winners moving on to the Eliminators. There will be a Mini-Qualifier between the third and fourth-place teams. While the loser still has a chance later in the playoffs, the winner advances.
In Qualifier 1, the top two league-stage teams—first and second—will square off, with the victor advancing straight to the championship game. Qualifier 2 will provide the losing team another chance to make it to the final.
There will now be three Eliminators and two Qualifiers in the playoffs, guaranteeing an exciting build-up to the championship match.
