India defeated Pakistan by 90 runs on Sunday in their Group A U-19 Asia Cup encounter while upholding the “no-handshake” protocol. During the toss at the ICC Academy grounds in Dubai, Pakistan’s Farhan Yousaf and India’s Ayush Mhatre ignored each another.
After the game also, neither team shook hands. Pakistan was dismissed for 150 in 41.2 overs while chasing 241 to win.
India won by 90 runs thanks to a disciplined bowling display spearheaded by seamer Deepesh Devendran and all-rounder Kanishk Chouhan.
India scored a competitive 240 all out in 46.1 overs after being sent to bat, thanks to a smooth 85 from Aaron George and helpful contributions from captain Ayush Mhatre (38) and Chouhan (46).
Pakistan never quite recovered from the early setbacks in a chase of 241 before being bowled out for 150 in 41.2 overs.
Before Mohammad Sayyam dismissed both openers in the first ten overs, India got off to a fast start with captain Mhatre hitting four boundaries and three sixes in his 25-ball innings.
After that, George managed to keep the innings together by continuously finding the gaps and providing solidity during the middle part. Despite frequently losing wickets, Chouhan’s late flourish—which featured three sixes—helped India surpass 230 runs.
Sayyam (3/67) and Abdul Subhan (3/42) were Pakistan’s best bowlers, while Niqab Shafiq contributed two wickets. Devendran scored three runs in a quick opening period as Pakistan’s chase faltered early, falling to 30/4.
Huzaifa Ahsan and captain Farhan Yousaf (23) tried to stabilize the innings, but Chouhan’s sharp off-spin broke the resistance. With 70 off 83 balls, Ahsan led Pakistan in scoring, but there was insufficient backing at the other end.
Devendran delivered figures of 3/16, while Chouhan concluded with 3/33 as India had a tight hold on the match throughout to secure a commanding victory in the high-profile Group A match.
