Anrich Nortje returns as South Africa announce ODI, T20I squads for India series

Premier pacer Kagiso Rabada will return home to recuperate from a rib injury he suffered during a training session prior to the current Test series, but Temba Bavuma was appointed as South Africa’s captain for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against India on Friday.

Bavuma is currently captaining the Proteas in the ongoing two-Test series against India.

The squad includes Quinton de Kock, who just returned from ODI retirement. After leading the batting charts with 232 runs from three innings, including a hundred and two fifties, De Kock was recently voted player of the ODI series against Pakistan.

Luhan de Pretorius, SA’s second-highest run scorer in the away ODI series against Pakistan, was left out of the team for the India series, though.

A three-match ODI series between India and South Africa will take place from November 30 to December 6.

Donnovan Ferreria will be replaced as captain by top-order batsman Aiden Markram, who was rested from the T20Is match against Pakistan after leading the team in the Test series.

For the series against India, Markram is also a member of the ODI team.

After missing the series against Pakistan, veteran left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has also rejoined the white ball sides.

The team for the T20I series includes pacer Anrich Nortje, who hasn’t played for his country since the T20 World Cup final against India last year.

A five-match T20I series between India and South Africa will begin on December 9.
