India captain Shubman Gill has been released from the hospital where he was being treated for a neck injury he suffered during the first Test match against South Africa in Kolkata.
Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), visited Gill at the Woodlands Multispecialty Hospital on Sunday following India’s 30-run loss on the difficult Eden Gardens surface, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Gill, who picked up the injury while batting on the second day, was ruled out of the first Test ahead of the third day’s play. He did not come out to bat in the second innings, where India were bundled out for 93.
However, the team management has not yet made a decision regarding his participation in the second game, which will begin on November 22 in Guwahati. On Tuesday, the squad will go to Guwahati.
Vice-captain Rishabh Pant, who himself was making a comeback from injury, led the team in Kolkata after Gill was ruled out.
