India’s World Cup-winning women cricketers gift memorabilia to PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a unique signed jersey from the Indian women’s cricket team on Wednesday. After meeting PM Modi at his New Delhi home, the World Cup-winning squad presented a jersey featuring the name “Namo 1” that was autographed by the whole team.

PM Modi hosted the victorious Indian women’s cricket team at his New Delhi home to commemorate their Women’s World Cup triumph. PM Modi greeted captain Harmanpreet and her teammates with warmth and listened to their tales from the historic campaign, upholding his custom of meeting and honoring victorious athletes.

India achieved history on Sunday by winning their first-ever Women’s World Cup under Harmanpreet’s leadership, putting an end to years of heartache and near misses. India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in a dramatic, high-scoring final in Navi Mumbai, marking the historic victory.

Unlike the 2023 men’s World Cup match between Australia and India, PM Modi was not present at the venue during the final, but he joined the country in celebrating the historic accomplishment by sending a heartfelt message of congratulations to Harmanpreet and her team.

Following the final, Deepti Sharma, the Women’s World Cup 2025 Player of the Tournament, disclosed that they planned to give PM Modi a unique present when they visit him on Wednesday.

During the meeting, PM Modi engaged with every team member. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur reminisced about the team’s 2017 meeting with PM Modi without a trophy. She remarked that they intended to see him more frequently in the future and that seeing him again now, as World Cup winners, made the occasion even more memorable.

PM Modi has been a consistent source of motivation for the squad, according to vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who said that his remarks were extremely inspiring. She added that women in India are currently succeeding greatly in a variety of professions and attributed their empowerment to the Prime Minister’s support.

According to Deepti Sharma, she had been looking forward to seeing PM Modi. She thought back to their conversation in 2017, when he had advised them to persevere and put in a lot of effort to achieve their dreams. She pointed out that this advice had now been fulfilled.

PM Modi acknowledged seeing Deepti’s Hanuman tattoo on her arm and her Instagram post titled “Jai Shri Ram” during the conversation. Deepti told him that she finds inner strength in her faith.

The Prime Minister was also questioned by Harmanpreet about how he maintains his composure and focus on the present. In response, PM Modi said that being present-minded has become a habit and a way of life for him.
