Mirabai Chanu clinches silver at World Weightlifting Championships – Watch

Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu (48kg) secured a silver medal at the World Championships in the 48kg category, adding to her illustrious record with a third podium finish in the marquee event at Forde in Norway.

After dropping from the 49kg division, the 2017 world champion and 2022 silver medallist achieved a total lift of 199kg (84 kg in snatch + 115 kg in clean and jerk) to be among the medal winners.

Chanu found it difficult in snatch, failing twice at 87 kg, but she was able to get back into the swing of the clean and jerk and complete all three attempts.

Chanu, a former clean and jerk world record holder, effortlessly accomplished lifts of 109, 112, and 115 kg.

She last lifted 115 kg while competing in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where she took home a silver medal.

Ri Song Gum of North Korea won the gold with a strong 213 kg effort (91 kg + 122 kg), breaking both the clean and jerk and total world records with her final two lifts of 120 kg and 122 kg.

Thanyathon Sukcharoen of Thailand finished with a total weight of 198 kg (88 kg + 110 kg), earning him bronze.
