VVS Laxman to head India’s coaching staff for Zimbabwe tour and Asian Games

India’s support team for the forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe and the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya will consist of Center of Excellence head VVS Laxman, batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and bowling coach Sunil Joshi.

The move is intended to provide a brief respite for the support staff of the senior national team after the white-ball series against England.

On July 23, 25, and 27, India will travel to Zimbabwe for a three-match Twenty20 International series in Harare. The tour starts just four days after the England series ends on July 19.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir will remain with the ODI team during India’s home white-ball series against the West Indies, while Laxman and his support staff will also be in charge of the Indian team at the Asian Games.

Laxman will be leading a second-string Indian squad for the first time. In 2024, when Abhishek Sharma made his debut and Shubman Gill was captain, he led the coaching staff in Zimbabwe.

In 2023, when Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the senior team for the ODI World Cup, Laxman served as head coach at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
