Sanju Samson’s Zimbabwe tour snub sparks call for selection clarity

Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was left out of India’s T20I squad for the Zimbabwe tour, which surprised Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, who hoped that the selectors had informed him of the decision. Rahane supported Samson and stated in an Instagram Story that he anticipated the wicketkeeper-batter’s comeback to the national team in the near future.

“Hope there has been some communication with @imsanjusamson. Find it odd that the hero of our recent T20 WC win has been left out of the T20 squad to Zimbabwe. Hope to see him back in the team soon,” Rahane wrote on his Instagram Story.

Rahane’s comments followed the announcement of India’s team for the T20I series against Zimbabwe, which did not include Samson in spite of his contributions to India’s triumphant ICC T20 World Cup campaign.

Ashok Sharma, Prabhsimran Singh, and Yash Thakur received their first-ever India call-ups when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the 15-man squad for the three-match Twenty20 International series on July 6.

The first Twenty20 International between India and Zimbabwe will take place in Harare on July 23, the second on July 25, and the third on July 26.

Sooryavanshi, who played his maiden game for India during the current five-match T20I series against England, retains his position while Iyer will lead the team, with Tilak Varma as the vice-captain.
