Injured Nitish Reddy replaced by Suryansh Shedge for Ireland, England tours

Injured all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been replaced by the young Suryansh Shedge in India’s squads for the forthcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, the BCCI said on Tuesday.

Reddy’s quadriceps injury from the last ODI series against Afghanistan prevented him from participating in the white ball tour of the UK, which was a blow to India earlier.

“The men’s selection committee has named Suryansh Shedge as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England,” the BCCI said in a statement.

After some outstanding performances for India A in the just finished tri-series in Sri Lanka, Shedge received the call-up. The 23-year-old contributed with the ball, bowling 23 overs during the competition, and scored 147 runs in five games while batting in the middle order.

He scored 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92 in the lower middle order during Mumbai’s winning Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in 2024–2025, making him one of the team’s best players.

Reddy was also meant to cover for Hardik Pandya, who is not fit enough to bowl ten overs in ODIs due to a quadriceps ailment.

“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the Ireland series. The MRI has revealed swelling with fiber disruption in the left quadriceps. He has been asked to report at COE for further assessment,” the medical bulletin in possession of PTI stated.

It is anticipated that Reddy will need at least four weeks to finish his rehabilitation before beginning his Return To Play procedures, though the recuperation period may be longer.

The 23-year-old has already represented India in 10 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 4 T20Is. He missed the second game in Lucknow but participated in two ODIs during the Afghanistan series.

Although bowling coach Morne Morkel initially stated that the injury didn’t appear to be serious, it has since taken a far more serious turn. Reddy’s speed increased from late 120 kmph to a brisk mid-130 kmph during his time with independent fast bowling instructor Steffan Jones, according to many, but his body was unable to adapt to the abrupt rise in pace.
