Sitanshu Kotak, India’s assistant coach, has heard that veterans Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are performing well, but he is unsure if they have passed their fitness tests before the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
While Rohit suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL, Pandya has been experiencing back spasms. After missing several IPL games, both were chosen for the ODI squad, pending clearance from a fitness test at the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
“I have honestly not got the news whether they have been cleared or not. But I’m sure they will be there. Whatever I heard, they are fine, but they, they have to go and do that fitness test or whatever the rule is,” PTI quoted Kotak as saying when asked about the status of the duo’s fitness test.
It is understood that Rohit has shown up for the fitness test at CoE in Bengaluru.
The ODI squad will assemble on Monday and Tuesday, according to Kotak. Before leaving for Dharamsala on Thursday, the team will train under lights on Wednesday.
“But the ODI players will join, they’ll join here, and day after tomorrow evening, there might be a light practice. So there might be a light practice session,” Kotak added.
