Tim David of Royal Challengers Bengaluru was fined 50% of his match fee and given a one-match suspension for the next season on Monday for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct during the final versus Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
According to an IPL statement, the 30-year-old David has now accrued five demerit points, which equates to one game of suspension, after receiving two for his offense.
The IPL’s Code of Conduct has been broken by the Australian cricketer three times this season. The tournament concluded on Sunday after RCB defeated GT by five wickets to win their second consecutive title.
“Tim David, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been fined 50 percent of his match fee and has also accumulated two Demerit Points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials,” the IPL said.
“David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.”
After being found guilty of hurling an ice bag “aggressively” at on-field umpire Nitin Menon, David acknowledged the offence and agreed to the penalty given by match referee Javagal Srinath. At the fall of a wicket in the tenth over of the first innings, the incident occurred.
Following RCB’s game against the Mumbai Indians on May 11, David was found guilty of violating Article 2.6, which deals with “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting.” In addition to receiving two demerit points for the incident, he was fined thirty percent of his match fee.
David was fined 25% of his match fees and given one demerit point for violating Article 2.4, which deals with “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during a match,” during a previous encounter on April 13 against the Mumbai Indians.
