Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the teenage batting sensation broke another record during Rajasthan Royals match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. The Royals opener smashed a record-breaking 43 sixes, the most by an Indian batter in a single season of the Indian Premier League.
The 15-year-old went past Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma’s previous record of 42 sixes in a single IPL season, which he achieved in 2024.
The record for hitting the most sixes in a single IPL season still belongs to Chris Gayle. Playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the West Indian smashed 59 sixes in the 2012 season and followed it up with 51 sixes in 2013. Andre Russell of Kolkata Knight Riders is the only other batter to cross the 50-sixes mark in a single IPL season, hitting 52 maximums in 2019.
Sooryavanshi reached the milestone during the IPL match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. He played a blazing knock of 46 runs from just 21 balls, which included five fours and three sixes.
The left-handed batter has been Royals’ top scorer in IPL 2026 so far, scoring 486 runs in 12 innings at a stunning strike rate of 234.78. His season includes one century and two half-centuries.
With this record, Sooryavanshi has joined an elite list that features some of the biggest names in IPL history. Virat Kohli hit 38 sixes in the 2016 season and repeated the feat again in 2024, while Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav also managed the same number of sixes in a season.
