Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel was fined Rs 12 lakh for his team’s poor over rate during Monday’s Indian Premier League victory over Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.
In Dharamsala, DC defeated Punjab Kings by three wickets thanks to counterattacking fifties from Axar and David Miller, maintaining their faint hopes of making the playoffs.
“Delhi Capitals (DC) Captain Axar Patel has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during the match No. 55 of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala,” said an IPL media advisory.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Axar Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it added.
Axar had only amassed 44 runs from eight prior innings going into this match, but he found form when it counted most, launching a barrage of boundaries that unnerved Punjab’s fast-paced attack.
Axar and Miller had a great time plucking off fours and sixes to keep their team in the hunt as the bowlers struggled to grasp the slippery ball due to a wet outfield.
“I have been saying that we are a good team, playing good cricket but not winning the crucial moments. I am really happy with how we played and hopefully we continue playing like this. Given the type of cricket we are playing and the bench strength we have, the future is in good hands. Youngsters standing up in such situations is a good sign,” AFP quoted Axar as saying.
DC, who are currently on seventh place in the standings, will play the Rajasthan Royals at home on Sunday.
