DC pacer Kyle Jamieson handed demerit point after fiery send-off to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Delhi Capitals pacer Kyle Jamieson’s fiery send-off to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the match against Rajasthan Royals on Friday, has landed the New Zealand pacer in trouble. Jamieson was given a warning and one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code Of Conduct for players and team officials.

The incident happened in the second over of the Royals innings. The RR opener showed his usual fearless approach, going after the Kiwi pacer straight away and hitting a boundary off the very first ball he faced. But Jamieson responded almost immediately with a perfect yorker that beat Sooryavanshi and ended the youngster’s innings before he could settle in.

Fired up after the wicket, Jamieson turned around in celebration and looked straight at Sooryavanshi as he walked back. The intense stare and the send-off didn’t exactly go well for Jamieson.

“Kyle Jamieson, Bowler, Delhi Capitals, has accumulated one Demerit Point and received a warning for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during Match No. 43 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.”

“Jamieson was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the match.”

“The incident occurred in the second over of the first innings, when, after dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Jamieson was found to be close to him in an aggressive manner, which could have provoked an aggressive reaction from the batter,” read the statement from IPL.

Jamieson accepted the charge and agreed to the penalty given by match referee Rajeev Seth.

His intense celebration after the wicket quickly became a talking point on social media, with many fans surprised to see such a strong reaction after dismissing a 15-year-old.

Some people said that kind of aggression isn’t usually seen from him, while others felt it showed how much impact Sooryavanshi is already making at such a young age.

Former cricketer Priyank Panchal also shared a similar view. He said the celebration didn’t look good, but added that it reflects the kind of pressure and fear Sooryavanshi is creating for bowlers and teams in the IPL.

“31-year-old Kyle Jamieson giving a 15-year-old kid a send off after dismissing him. Does not make for a pretty sight. But also shows how much of an impact and fear Vaibhav has instilled amongst the opponents already,” said Panchal on X.
