Vaibhav Sooryavanshi doesn’t need settling down in a high-pressure tournament like IPL, and he proved it by scoring a 15-ball fifty in Rjasthan Royals’s first game of the season against Chennai Super Kings on Monday. The 15-year-old batting sensation has taken the cricketing world by storm, with everyone including the Royals skipper Riyan Parag wondering how could he bat like this at the top level?
During the post-match conference in Guwahati, Parag revealed that he has given Sooryavanshi the assurance that he is going to play all the 14 games for Rajasthan this season.
“What I tell him is that you’re going to play 14 games and regardless of what goes on in the game, it shouldn’t bother you. What goes around in the media shouldn’t bother you,” Parag was quoted as saying.
Parag, who took over RR’s captaincy for IPL 2026 after Sanju Samson was traded off to Chennai Super Kings in a pre-season transfer deal, said that the entire team is working to make Sooryavanshi comfortable.
“The message to Vaibhav is to not think too much about what is going on outside. He likes to bat, so we make sure he gets ample batting practice. He likes to eat, so we make sure he has ample food,” said Parag.
On a sticky wicket with the ball holding up, Parag said that he and Dhruv Jurel were stunned how Sooryavanshi was hitting the ball.
“Dhruv (Jurel) and I were sitting and watching him bat, wondering what had happened with the wicket as it was a little sticky, with some moisture. Like everyone in the stands, we also had this feeling of ‘wow’, wondering how he is able to do this. He is a talent and I am very glad that he is in our team, and not the opponent’s,” he said.
