After Yastika Bhatia was sidelined due to a knee injury, wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry was selected on Thursday to play for India in the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the Women’s World Cup. The BCCI announced on Thursday that Bhatia had injured her left knee while in Visakhapatnam for India’s preparatory camp.
“The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Yastika Bhatia’s progress and the team wishes Yastika Bhatia a speedy recovery,” the BCCI said in a media release.
Chetry will no longer play for India A in their World Cup warm-up match as she was added to the senior team.
“Chetry, who now is a part of the India squad for the Australia series and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, will no longer be a part of the India A squad, which is scheduled to take part in a warm-up match in the World Cup,” it added.
In terms of her batting prowess, Chetry of Assam has a somewhat modest record in the seven Twenty20 Internationals that she has played. With an extremely low strike-rate of 90+ and a maximum score of 24, she has only managed to score 37 runs in 4 innings. In her four innings, she has failed to hit a single six.
A three-match ODI series between India and Australia will start in Mullanpur on September 14.
After two World Cup warm-up matches in Bengaluru, the Women in Blue will play the tournament’s first match against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30.
