After dismissing batting legend Virat Kohli in an exciting Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter in Bengaluru on Friday, Gujarat’s left-arm spinner Vishal Jayswal was given a signed match ball by the Indian batting stalwart.
With outstanding stats of 4/42 from his 10 overs, including the crucial wicket of Kohli, Jayswal stole the show even though Gujarat lost the game by a slim margin of 7 runs.
Wicketkeeper Urvil Patel pulled off the bails for an easy stumping after the left-arm spinner bowled a beauty to take out batting superstar Kohli, who ran down the track but was unable to reach the pitch before being thoroughly foxed by the fast turning delivery.
Following a century in Delhi’s tournament opener against Andhra, Kohli maintained his strong form by smashing a quickfire 77 off 61 balls, an innings, with 13 fours and a six at a strike rate of 126.23.
Additionally, Jayswal dismissed skipper Rishabh Pant for 70 and Delhi opener Arpit Rana (10) and Nitish Rana (12).
The young spinner caught up with Kohli after the game and had an unforgettable experience when he obtained the legend’s signature on the match ball.
”From watching him dominate world cricket to sharing the same field and taking his wicket is a moment I never imagined would turn into reality. Getting the wicket of Virat Bhai is something I’ll cherish forever. Just grateful for the opportunity, the journey, and everything this beautiful game has given me,” Jayswal said on Instagram.
Delhi defeated Gujarat by a slim margin of seven runs thanks to fifties from Kohli and captain Rishabh Pant (70). Delhi scored a respectable 254/9 in their 50 overs when they were put to bat. Gujarat was bowled out for 247 in 47.4 overs after appearing to be in a dominant position at 121/1 before losing their way due to a middle-order collapse.
With 3/37, Prince Yadav was Delhi’s hero with the ball, while veterans Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini made vital breakthroughs to seal the victory.
